Under the leadership of Dr. Anthony M. Avellino, Children’s Neurosurgery Division treats conditions like hydrocephalus, brain and spinal cord tumors, craniofacial anomalies, epilepsy, congenital/developmental anomalies of the brain and spinal cord, spine disorders, vascular diseases of the brain and spinal cord and trauma.
Our neurosurgeons perform challenging, highly technical surgeries. We use state-of-the-art equipment and the most advanced surgical techniques.
We work closely with specialists — in fields like neurology and plastic and reconstructive surgery — to ensure that each child gets the personalized care he needs, from evaluation and diagnosis through follow-up. Together, we work to improve health and quality of life for thousands of children.
As a national referral center for children with Chiari malformation and craniosynostosis, we treat patients from all over the United States. We see between 70 and 110 new patients with craniosynostosis each year.
The division is part of the Department of Surgery at Children’s and the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington.
